Slow Beauty: Why Less Is Really More
Hello TalloTalkers,
Let’s talk about slowing down—and how I ended up slathering beef fat on my face.
After years in the fashion and styling world, I hit a wall. The noise, the pressure, the excess, it was everywhere. What started with clothes spilled into everything else: my food, my skincare, the pace of my everyday life. It was all too much.
And if I’m honest? I don’t trust big corporations, or their morals.
Especially when it comes to the beauty industry.
Most moisturisers out there are more than 80% water, bulked out with cheap fillers, synthetic preservatives, and fragrances that do more harm than good. We're sold the idea of convenience, but it comes at a cost: irritated skin, disrupted hormones, and an endless cycle of products that never really deliver.
On top of that, there’s the hard sell. It’s fast, it’s loud, and it’s everywhere, especially on social media. None of it sat right with me. I feel like we need to just STOP for a minute.
So I stepped off the hamster wheel and did my own research and found something that aligned with who I am, and not what ‘I was told I should like’.
In quiet rebellion, I went looking for something slower, cleaner, and more honest. Skincare that actually worked and aligned with my values. Fewer products. Fewer steps. More real care.
And that’s when I found tallow.
Yes, beef fat.
Sounds strange, until you realise our ancestors swore by it. It’s deeply nourishing, biologically compatible with our skin, and more effective than anything a lab’s churned out lately.
Tallow isn’t trending (yet), but it should be. And I’m all in.
🧴 Why I Use Tallow
One of the biggest shifts for me was switching to tallow balm. It’s rich, clean, and wildly effective, but more than that, it slows me down. There’s something grounding about it. It feels like care in a jar.
🛒 Grab your TalloHouse balm here — made with love (and beef fat 😉).
🌸 My Evening Ritual
Most nights, I keep it simple.
Massage in a small dollop of tallow balm
Use my gua sha to gently sweep my face (and hope it stays up) but I also do my legs!
That’s it. No overwhelm. No 12 step routine. Just skin-loving care that helps me unwind after a full day of mum-ing, working, and life-ing.
If you haven’t tried gua sha yet, it’s a total game-changer for lymphatic drainage and tension release. I often do it while reading or watching a bit of Netflix - it’s become a quiet cue to my nervous system that it’s time to wind down.
🛒 This is the gua sha I love: affordable, real stone, easy to use
🛒 This stainless steel one is next level: cooling, easy to clean, and lasts forever

💡 Slow Beauty = Better Skin (and Less Stress)
Here’s what the slow beauty approach looks like:
Natural, ethical ingredients
Fewer, multi-use products (hello tallow!)
Ritual over routine
Supporting your skin long-term, not just for today
It’s not just skincare.
It’s nervous system care.
It’s nourishment for your skin, and your soul.
If life’s felt a bit too fast lately, grab your balm and come on this journey with me.
I’m right here with you taking life a bit slowe.
Love Nicola x
